The gambrel roof is symmetrically two-sided with two slopes on each side. The upper slope is positioned at a shallow angle, while the lower slope is steep. This design provides the advantages of a sloped roof while maximising headroom on the shed's upper level.

Shiplap is a basic style of overlapping siding board and this overlapping pattern creates a weather-resistant shell around the building. The tight fitting nature of the tongue and groove joints are more likely to provide a long-lasting seal against rain, snow and ice; although once your playhouse has been installed, you should continue to maintain it with a good quality preservative every year or two, in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.
