This plant is an evergreen perennial originating from New Zealand. It is notable for its striking seedheads. The flowerheads are covered with brownish-green bracts and are followed by reddish-brown burrs. Good as groundcover, although it can be invasive.

It's shape is described as prostrate. It grows to a height of 0.12m and 0.75m in width. It has lobed foliage that is blue/green. It produces flowers during mid summer that are spherical in shape and brown in colour.

This hardy plant grows horizontally and low to the ground. It requires a rich and well drained soil, preferring semi-shade, sun, and a position in a border, in a raised bed or trained up a wall.
